How quickly you forget what it was like to be 12 years old....and how quickly you remember! I liked the mix of enthusiasm and lethargy, excitement and boredom… and the endless chatter. I found myself joining in the various conversations instead of trying to keep the class quiet, which fit in fine with the combustive side of the project.

2008 : Davide showed the students slides of his work and explained his technique of making drawings by burning images - taken from the New York Times - with a magnifying glass.
He then guided the students in a similar procedure; they traced images and burned an outline of their drawings. Each student was then asked to create a drawing of his or her idea of "paradise", an image that might be used as a background for the next part of the project which is to draw a Self Portrait. This drawing was done by introducing them to the idea of scaling by grid-work. As they master this technique, they will be able to use their drawings to trace a new image which in turn will be the one that they burn.
